I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed, so I just created two requests for my classroom at DonorsChoose.org:
Fostering Real World Connections in Mathematics.
Cubelet You Make a Robot?
If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks.
Thanks so much,
P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help my classroom, please pass this along!
The time has come for us to have the first of two meetings about Outdoor Science Camp!
Please join the sixth-grade teachers and Parent Committee on Tuesday at 6:30-7:15 in the MPR to hear about how we will raise money so that all our students can attend camp.
We kindly request that a parent from each family attend this important meeting, or send a friend or family member to represent them.
Mrs. Diaz and Mr. Luke
Students at Eastwood made this video to show why you would want to have a student-led conference.
Have you signed up?
Goal setting conferences will be held the week of October 16-20. Please note that students will be dismissed at 1:20 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday of that week. Thursday is a non-student day.
To sign up for a conference, use Sign-Up Genius link on the Parent Resources page. Both students and parents must attend the conference, so please pick a time for your family accordingly.
Parents, you will need to fill out a Parent Goal-Setting Conference questionnaire in advance of the conference. Please go to THIS FORM to complete the questionnaire. Please take your time filling out your thoughtful responses, but I kindly ask that you do so no later than next Friday, October 6th so I can use the information to tailor the conference to meet your needs. Thank you very much!
Students will be filling out their own goal setting forms at school and will be prepared to discuss their strengths and areas of for growth during the conference.
Have a wonderful weekend!
If you have not signed up for AppleTree, please do so ASAP.
One of my goals is for my students to learn how to work efficiently, manage their time effectively, and complete their work on time. This year, I am trying something new to communicate with parents about their child's work habits.
Depending on your child, you may want to check our Daily Assignments on our website to ask your child how they are progressing on the assigned tasks. Although I do not assign "homework", class work that is not completed during the day may need to be completed at home in order for your child to be prepared to engage in learning activities the following day.
One way I will be using AppleTree is to communicate with parents when students do not complete their work on time. We will be checking assignments first thing in the morning each day starting this week. If your student asks for additional time to complete assignments, parents will be notified via AppleTree.
If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, please feel free to contact me. This is a new system for me, but I think it will be much easier than sending home a form for parents to sign or sending an email each day. Reporting your 6th grader's work habits this way should help to hold students accountable for completing their work while keeping parents informed.
Thank you for your support!
Hello Awesome Eastwood Families!
Thanks for checking out our new website! I hope you find it informative and helpful.
This page is a BLOG. That means I can use it to communicate with all my families. And you can use it to communicate with me. Please feel free to post in the comments section below if you need anything but please remember that it is not a private conversation between us. In fact, it is intended to be a public discussion forum!
One thing of interest to parents in particular, is the Parent Resources tab. That is where I will put important resources for parents. Although school hasn't actually started, and we don't know each other yet, I want you to start thinking about joining our 6th Grade Parent Committee. This parent volunteer group usually oversees special events, especially FUNDRAISING for our Outdoor Science Camp. I'm hoping we can get a group of about 5 parents who want to work with me to help us raise money for Outdoor Ed and all the other cool and exciting things I have planned for your children. We will talk more about it at Back To School Night but if you want to take a look, head on over to that page using the navigation links at the top.
That's all for now! Please check back often to see more updates. I can't wait to meet you all!
Have a beautiful day!
